View of two Detroit police officers posing with bicycles. Brick building in background. Typed on back: "Picture no. 6. Text: Good old days. While Detroit policemen were usually tolerant with motorists, they dealt sternly with speeding bicycle riders, known as 'scorchers.' (Because the judge chastised one of them for 'burning up the pavement.')." Handwritten on back: "Bicycles. So we quickly became known as 'scorcher cops.' Joe Whitty, left, and Charle Stewart, circa 1900."
