Buildings on Woodward before removal, 1906-1907
Description:
Buildings on Woodward, due to be torn down. Many have signs announcing removal sales and new addresses. Street numbers 244-250. Signs include: Detroit Costuming Co.; The Barton-Netting Co.; Farrand Organ Co.; Chickering; E.F. Saunders, chiropodist; Pittmans & Dean Co., coal and ice; all kinds of typewriters. Handwritten on stock back: "East side of Woodward, south of Grand Circus Park, between John R. & Witherell, site of the Woodward Arcade. This picture appeared in the Detroit Free Press of Jan. 20, 1907, with the caption 'New block of modern stores will replace these landmarks.' Folder IV. 1906-07." Arrow marked at top of photograph. Photograph irregularly faded.
