Weight: 185. Bats: right. Throws: right. Vern is one of the game's better shortshops. In the 1949 campaign he hit .290, and tied for the league lead in runs batted in (159). He slammed out 31 doubles and 39 homers. Slugging percentage, .539. Vern was traded to the Sox by the Browns after the 1947 season. In 1945 he topped the circuit in homers.
