View of bronze tablet marking the site of General Anthony Wayne's house, installed on building at 220 West Jefferson. Inscription reads: "Major General Anthony Wayne, General-in-Chief of the United States Army lived in a house on old Ste. Anne Street near this spot, from August 13 until November 15, 1796. Gratified because Wayne County was named for him and pleased with the courtesy shown him by the inhabitants of Detroit, Wayne wrote just before leaving 'I shall always take a peculiar interest in whatever may contribute to promote the happiness and prosperity of this country to which my name has the honor to be attached.' This tablet presented to the city of Detroit on July 11, 1951 by the J.L. Hudson Company under the auspices of the Detroit Historical Society."
