View of bronze tablet honoring Major General Anthony Wayne, installed on the south pylon of entrance to County Building. Inscription reads: "This tablet is a tribute to Maj. General Anthony Wayne, USA, to whom as General in Command, the English surrendered this region, July 11th, 1796, the county of Wayne was created and named in his honor, August 15th 1796. As then established the county embraced nearly all of the present state of Michigan and portions of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin, including the sites of Milwaukee and Chicago and parts of Fort Wayne and Cleveland erected under the auspices of the Michigan Society of the Sons of the American Revolution."
