The celebration climaxed an eight-year expansion adding more than 1 million square feet to the Tarrytown plant, one of 13 Chevrolet assembly facilities across the nation. Knudsen said production has risen from 54 cars a day when Chevrolet obtained the plant in 1914 to 1170 cars and trucks per day. GM officials called the modernized and expanded facilities 'tangible evidence' of GM's 'faith in the future.' Dramatizing the high sales rate of the auto industry, Knudsen declared this milestone was reached less than four months after production of Chevrolet's 49 millionth vehicle in St. Louis, Missouri."
