Remarkable advance in aircraft design was picturesquely illustrated when a 10-year-old Lockheed Vega monoplane of a type which smashed innumerable records in its day, nosed up to the giant new Lockheed Constellation in Burbank, Calif. The Constellation had its first flight early in 1943; the Vega was built in 1934. Such aviation greats as Wiley Post, Amelia Earhart, Ruth Nichols and Jimmie Mattern became famous in record-breaking flights in Vega monoplanes. In this photo, Carl B. Squier, Vice-president of Lockheed and Vega Aircraft Corporations, is shown inspecting the two airplanes. Squier, one of the founders of Lockheed, was present at the start of most of those historic Vega flights." Handwritten on back: "Aircraft in action."
