Motorist posing in Chalmers automobile at Williams Canyon near Manitou, Colorado
Description:
View of motorist posing at the edge of Williams Canyon near Manitou, Colorado. Cave of the Winds in background. Label on back: "Williams Canon and the Cave of the Winds, near Manitou, Colo. Williams Canon is one of the rugged and picturesque canons of the Pikes Peak region. Its entrance is just north of the Soda Springs, Manitou. The prevailing formation is the castellated limestone wall, in contrast to the granite characteristic of the other canons of that locality. The road, rising from the bottom of the canon, winds across the face of the cliff to the Cave of the Winds, itself one of the geological miracles of Colorado, with its rare crystallized formations. The return trip is over a new automobile road along the rim of Williams Canon, descending Agate Mountain by a series of loops, into Ute Pass and Manitou." Handwritten on back: "Chalmers, ca. 1910."
