Binocular Case Department, Nash-Kelvinator Corporation
Description:
View of men and women assembling M-17 carrying cases in the Binocular Case Department at the Seaman Body Plant, Nash-Kelvinator Corporation. Label on back: "Nash-Kelvinator Corporation, Seaman Body Plant, Milwaukee. Binocular Case Dept. Photograph #75145. General view of the Binocular Case Department, where the M-17 carrying case for the United States Army is fabricated and assembled. Approximately 30,000 hides of 6 oz. russet case and strap leather have been used to fabricate 265,000 cases to date. This view shows a typical 'automotive' progressive production setup. The operators have become so proficient in performing their work, and with such exact nicety, as to have the U.S.A. Ordinance Department withdraw their inspector, and accept company inspection." Handwritten on back: "Women workers."
