Joined in formation for the first aerial photograph of its kind, the United States Army's three types of four-engine, long-range airplanes. Shown in center is the big C-54 Skymaster combat transport. At its left, a Liberator bomber, and at right, a Flying Fortress bomber. All three are in quantity production at the great plants of Douglas Aircraft Company. These are the only four-engine military airplanes in large-scale manufacture anywhere in the world, with Douglas the only firm building all three types. Designed by Douglas, C-54s today are swiftly conveying men and materials to far-flung battlefronts. Designed by Consolidated and Boeing respectively, the Liberator and Flying Fortress bombers daily win new laurels in their high-altitude precision blows against enemy ships and bases.
