Inscribed on base: "Erected by the citizens of New York in grateful remembrance of Peter Cooper, found of the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, anno Domini MDCCCXCVII." Stamped on back: "Spooner & Wells, Inc., photographers, telephones 3472-3473 Columbus, 1931 Broadway, New York." Handwritten on back: "Monuments--Peter Cooper monument."
