Label on back: "An interesting group of churchmen of earlier days. This interesting photograph was taken in 1869, during the sessions of an Episcopal convention in Detroit. Reading from left to right, the clergymen in the picture are: H. Paddock, then rector Christ Church, afterwards bishop of Massachusetts; Rev. William E. Armitage, then rector of St. John's church, afterwards bishop of Wisconsin, buried in Elmwood cemetery; Rt. Rev. Samuel A. McCoskry, first bishop of Michigan, who would have been one hundred years old last November, consecrated July 7, 1836, and died August 1, 1886; Rev. Ammi Lewis rector of the Episcopal church at East Tawas; Dr. Milton Lightner, rector of St. Paul's church and afterwards of Grace church; Rev. Alfred Brewer, then rector of Mariner's church, afterwards in charge at San Mateo, California, where he established a boys' school."
