Hillier's saw mill, plaining [sic] mill and heading factory. It is located on Railroad St. in Montrose village near a side track of the C.S. & M. Ry. where it is convenient for loading cars with heading. The mill was erected in 1893 by Mr. Hillier and continuously operated every [sic] since. During the winter season when cutting heading the mill is frequently double crewed and kept running day and night. Siding, ceiling, flooring, moulding, pilaster, lath, shingles, etc. are also manufactured here. The mill is a valuable industry for the village as a large amount of money is annually paid out for labor and material."
