View of two women posing in front of the grain elevator in Montrose, Michigan. Printed on front: "No. 22." Label on back: "Elevator. The building here shown is the Montrose elevator which is owned by Wm. Hammer. The business was established in 1889 by Mauk & Hammer but during the present year Mr. Hammer purchased Mr. Mauk's interest in the business. The building is a wooden structure 20 feet wide, 54 feet long and 50 feet high. The elevators in the building are operated by a gasoline engine in the basement. The business carried on by Mr. Hammer is of great importance to the village as he purchases hay, grain, wool, etc., thus making a ready market for all kinds of farm products raised in this vicinity. Mr. Hammer paid out nearly $60,000 for produce purchased of the farmers at this elevator the past year. The building is located on Railroad St. just south of the depot on the C.S. & M. Ry. siding."
