Hotel Flynn, Montrose, Michigan
View of men and women posing on the porch of the Hotel Flynn in Montrose, Michigan. Printed on front: "No. 19." Label on back: "Hotel Flynn. This is a view of the Hotel Flynn, located on the corner of State and Saginaw Sts., in Montrose village. The building is of brick and is 66 feet long, 56 feet wide, and two stories high. The west part of the building was erected by John Flynn in 1894 for a residence, but in 1896, after deciding to change it into a hotel, he had it greatly enlarged. The building contains about twenty-five rooms and is conveniently arranged for a hotel. Mr. Flynn opened the building as a hotel July 1st, 1896 but in 1897 sold the business and rented the building to H.D. Carmer who continued it until 1899 when both the business and the building were purchased by William Gillam who still conducts it. Mr. Gillam also carries on a livery business in connection with the hotel, in a large brick barn belonging with the property. This hotel was the first brick building erected in the village and is composed of Montrose brick manufactured on sections 27 and 17 by Flynn & Streeter and Flynn & Smith."
