Description
View of George F. Pierrot posing behind the wheel of a ship at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle. Label on back: "This photo was taken at the Dossin Museum on Belle Isle in 1975. It reminds Pierrot of his steering the U.S.S. Surveyor, a coast and geodetic survey ship, across the Caribbean and part way through the Panama Canal. Spelling Pierrot at the wheel was his partner the late J.P. Rockfellow, Arizona cowboy who later become personnel director of Union Oil Company. The two had been enrolled in the Central Infantry Officers Training School at Waco, Texas, at Camp McArthur in World War I. They were undergraduates at the time, Rockfellow from U of Arizona and Pierrot from U of Washington. They traversed Panama Canal in 1919."
