View of an 1893 Haynes-Apperson car on display at the Smithsonian Institution. Steering mechanism for ship and model ship are also on display in room. Typed on back: "Interior view of the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. showing the original Haynes car, invented and built by Elwood Haynes, 1893-1894. Gasoline automobile. Built by Elwood Haynes, in Kokomo, Indiana, 1893-1894. Equipped with one horsepower engine. Successful trial trip made at speed of six or seven miles an hour, July 4, 1894. Gift of Elwood Haynes, 1910. 262,135." Handwritten on back: "Haynes-Apperson."
