At times the water goes below its average depth and a heavily loaded boat is apt to scrape on the sill upon which the gates rest when closed. It requires from ten minutes to several hours to set the boats safely over and occasionally many tow-lines are snapped before the work is accomplished. Published by Young, Lord & Rhoades.
