View of employees posing in the Bank of the Commonwealth. Label on back: "Hammond Bldg. Mrs. Helen Belote (far right-holding child) remembers the day Bank of the Commonwealth opened it's [sic] doors 50 years ago in downtown Detroit. 'The bank was filled with flowers. There were bouquets all around and it was a warm Spring day. My father had a good sense of history and he thought it was important for the family to be at the bank on opening day. There was a photographer who took pictures just before the doors opened and then all the customers began to come in,' said Mrs. Belote, during an interview in her suburban Detroit home this week. Pictured left to right are Fred H. Talbot, now of Royal Oak who was the Bank's first cashier and a director when was only 29 years old. He retired as vice president in 1963 and from the Board of Directors in 1964. Behind Mr. Talbot are a secretary and Comfort Tyler (Mrs. Belote's father), an original stockholder, director and vice president of the mortgage department. Mrs. Tyler, who passed the no. 1 savings deposit passbook on to her daughter, is seated on the right of her husband. Standing behind them are Joseph McCausey and his wife. Mr. McCausey was a banker from Union City, Michigan who helped found Bank of the Commonwealth and served as its first president and a member of the board of directors. On the right is Mrs. Blaine Tyler Coleman, her two sons and Mrs. Helen Tyler Belote and her son. Both Mrs. Coleman and Mrs. Belote were daughters of Mr. Tyler who moved his entire family to Detroit from southwest Michigan when he left his successful farm for the full-time banking business in Detroit. Bank of the Commonwealth is celebrating its 50th anniversary during the month of April."
