Description
View of Alanson P. Brush and motorists in a 1903 Cadillac Model A car, pulling passengers in a wagon on Shelby St. Commercial buildings and man with bicycle in background. Handwritten on front: "Al Brush driving up Shelby St. hill, Detroit with first [undeciperable] built 1903." Handwritten on back: "1903 Cadillac, Model A. 1 cy., 10 h.p., 70" whb. 4-p. touring with detachable rear-entrance tonneau. $850 f.o.b. A notation on the border of this photograph reads: 'Al Brush driving up Shelby St. hill, Detroit with first [Cadillac] built 1903.' It is doubtful that this is the very first Cadillac (various details are different when compared to #1), although certainly this is an early Model A. A slightly retouched version of this photograph was used in Cadillac's advertising; a full-page advertisement in the 30 January 1904 issue of Scientific American (page 91) used this photograph.
