View of a man in motorboat "Vingt et Un I." Boat displays a "Smith & Mabley" flag. Typed on back: "Photograph of the first Vingt et Un, for which the sensational speed of 26 miles per hour was claimed in November of 1903. Owners Smith & Mabley never entered the boat in a race, but widespread publicity of Vingt et Un's performance touched off an 'autoboat' craze that lasted several years." Handwritten on back: "Boats and boating."
