Oil painting by J.L.D. Mathies depicting the wreck of the steamboat Walk-in-the-Water on Lake Erie, November 1, 1821. From the beach, Mathies made two sketches of the shipwreck, and later painted two views in oil on board for one of the ship's passengers. Inscribed on back: "Thomas Palmer, Hamtramck."
