Description
View of a 1901 Duryea three-wheeled automobile. Typed on back: "Subject: Duryea automobiles. Collection: MS3/Charles E. Duryea Collection. Date: 1901. Source: Estate of Charles E. & M. Jerry Duryea. I.D.: Duryea three wheeler. Shown on back of photo: This shows the 3-wheeler used in the NY-Rochester run in fall of 1901. It made a perfect run until near Rochester. With several hours & only a few miles, the driver pusht [sic] it into a barn & quit. 'Slippery roads' was his alibi. Years later I learned he had taken a drink of whiskey. Frequently experiences of this sort have convinced me, that even occasional drinkers are not to be trusted. Endurance run."
