Woman worker assembling bulkheads for pressurized cabins on B-29 Superfortress
View of a woman worker assembling the bulkheads for pressurized cabins on the B-29 Superfortress bomber at the Hudson Motor Car Company factory. Label on back: "Hudson Motor Car Co., Detroit, Mich. Pinwheel fixture speeds Boeing B-29 production. Remember those spinning pinwheel fireworks you used to light on Fourth of July evenings and how they revolved? One Hudson Motor Car Co. plant in Detroit which makes three of the huge fuselage sections (two of them are pressurized) and the outer wings for the powerful new Boeing B-29 Superfortress is using the pinwheel idea to speed production. Bulkheads for the pressurized cabins shown being made give some idea of the cabin's great size. Thus, we are using the pinwheel production idea to carry some 'Made in America' fireworks to Tokyo's doorsteps." Handwritten on back: "Women workers."
