Russell Dudley wiring stabilizers, Fisher Body Division aircraft plant
View of Russell Dudley wiring stabilizers at the Fisher Body Division aircraft plant. Attached press release: "From W.S. McLean, Fisher Body Division, General Motors Corporation, Detroit, Michigan. Note editor: This story has been reviewed by the War Department. Detroit 00. An improvement resulting in almost 17 per cent time saving in the wiring of horizontal stabilizers has been effected at the main aircraft plant of the Fisher Body Division of General Motors through the adoption of an employee's suggestion. The employe [sic], Russell Dudley, suggested the use of a piece of cord or string to wire the stabilizers. A knot is tied at one end and the string is blown through the conduit. After the string is through, an operator can easily pull wires through the conduits. Prior to adoption of Dudley's suggestions, a piano wire was pushed through the conduit but this frequently was a slow process because of sharp curves in the conduits which hindered the wires from going through properly."
