Stocked with over 500 popular books, including Large Print editions, records and cassetts [sic] tapes, magazines, and a selection of framed art reproductions, the Mainstream bookmobile visits over 40 locations where senior citizens live and gather, once every three weeks. Its librarians also take requests for titles from the Main Library collection, including foreign language titles. Project Mainstream is funded by grants from the Office of Services to the Aging using funds allocated under the Older Americans Act, and the Friends of the Detroit Public Library; its services are administered by the Detroit Public Library's department of Service to Shut-Ins and Retirees, Mrs. Dorothy Romani, Coordinator.
