Summary: Ms. Cather states that she could not "reasonably or legally interfere" with Mrs. Davidson's literature class "impersonating certain characters in a novel" as a "method of getting young people really interested in a book." But publication of such adaptations would violate copyright laws, and both she and Mr. Knopf "have uniformly refused ever to give such permission."
