1972 AMC Javelin SST and AMC Javelin AMX automobiles
Two views of a 1972 AMC Javelin SST and a 1972 AMC Javelin AMX car. Printed on front: "For PM release Tuesday, September 7, 1971. Public Relations, American Motors, Detroit, Mich. 48232. American Motors' Javelin SST has a new cross-hatched grille design and rally stripes for 1972 (top photo), while the Javelin AMX (bottom photo) retains its distinctive mesh grille and rear deck spoiler. Bucket seats are standard on both models, with instruments and controls being arranged in an aircraft-type cockpit. Any one of six American Motors engines -- ranging in size from the standard 232 CID six to optional 401 CID V-8 -- may be fitted to the AM sporty car. A new smoother shifting, quieter 'Torque-Command' automatic transmission is available with all sixes or V-8's. The 1972 Javelin and Javelin AMX appear in dealer showrooms in late September."
