Hudson plant after conversion to war production
View of workers in a Hudson automobile plant after its conversion to war production. Label on back: "Converted to war production in 29 days. As an example of the speed with which the automobile industry has converted its plants to war production, the Hudson Motor Car Company revealed today that one of its plants was in production on aircraft parts 29 days after automobile equipment was moved out of the building. Hudson, one of the first manufacturers to begin conversion to war production, was at work on many important arms contracts long before production of automobiles ended. The first photograph [not available] shows a section of one of the Hudson plants after the automobile equipment had been removed. The second photograph shows the same area as it appears today. Batteries of machines have been moved in and hundreds of new jobs, are working here night and day turning out aircraft parts. Many of the machines shown in the picture formerly were used by Hudson in automobile manufacture and have been converted by Hudson engineers for aircraft work." Handwritten on back: "Conversion."
