View of soldiers in jeep being towed uphill by cable at Attu Island in Alaska during World War II. Printed on front: "Signal Corps, U.S. Army." Label on back: "SC 174155. In order to get the supplies and tractors up onto the ridge it was necessary to pull them up by cable, as is shown in the picture. The jeep, shown here, is just reaching the top after being pulled up the 200 ft. incline. In the background can be seen the supply dump at the bse of the incline. Holts Bay, Attu, Aleutian islands, May 12, 1943." Stamped on back: "Signal Corps photo, please credit. Released for publication by Bureau of Public Relations, War Department."
