Man inspecting Studebaker Weasel amphibious vehicle
View of man inspecting a Studebaker Weasel amphibious vehicle in a basin. Label on back: "Automobile drivers become mariners in this procedure designed to test the amphibious qualities of Studebaker's new military carrier, the Water Weasel. For inspection purposes, a 100-foot long basin was built adjoining the factory. At the completion of road tests, the vehicle is driven down a ramp to an increasing water depth and then chained to an overhead fixture. Water churned around the body by the continuous circuit tracks discloses even minute apertures. The Water Weasel is the latest development in the M-29 series, produced secretly by Studebaker for two years and recently revealed as having been assigned to the Pacific as well as the European war theater." Handwritten on back: "Amphibious vehicles."
