Soldiers in Ford GPA amphibious vehicles
View of soldiers in Ford GPA amphibious vehicles during maneuvers near Detroit. Label on back: "Release Sunday, March 21, 1943. Closeup of Ford-built amphibian car shows how it appears negotiating a fast-flowing stream in the Detroit area. The vehicle is manned by combat-clad troops. The Army describes the car as 'the most flexible new machine of the war' and has announced that it is being used by U.S. fighting forces in war zones. The controls of the new Army transportation unit, for land operation, are identical to the quarter-ton four-wheel drive reconnaissance car, and no steering changeover is required from land to water operation. From Ford News Bureau, John W. Thompson, Director. Administration Building. Dearborn, Michigan." Handwritten on back: "Amphibious vehicles."
