Soldiers in Ford GPA amphibious vehicles
View of soldiers in Ford GPA amphibious vehicles in demonstration near Detroit. Label on back: "Release Sunday, March 21, 1943. Fort Wayne soldiers, in full battle array, pictured as they loaded into Ford-built amphibian cars in a recent demonstration in the Detroit area. Immediately afterwards these troops, four to a car, were crossing a fast-flowing stream, simulating action which the War Department has announced is taking place with the amphibians in war zones. The machine is called the 'most flexible new machine of the war,' by the War Department. The controls of the new Army transportation unit, for land operation, are identical to the quarter-ton four-wheel drive reconnaissance car, and no steering changeover is required from land to water operations. From Ford News Bureau, John W. Thompson, Director. Administration Building. Dearborn, Michigan." Handwritten on back: "Amphibious vehicles."
