View of soldiers with an M1 Smoke-Drake during World War II. The Smoke-Drake is a mechanical smoke generator mounted on an amphibious vehicle or "duck." Typed on back: "SC 193166-S. The M1 Smoke-Drake, (M1 mechanical smoke generator mound on 'duck'), a mechanical dragon which spouts artificial fog from steel nostrils, is seen here covering the landing of supplies during an invasion test off the coast of England. Other smoke-drakes, still in the water, are in the background. 1944." Stamped on back: "Signal Corps photo, please credit. Released for publication by Bureau of Public Relations War Department." Handwritten on back: "Amphibious vehicles."
