Studebaker cab-forward truck depositing coal at residence
View of a Studebaker cab-forward truck, owned by the George B. Newton Coal Company, depositing coal from chute into coal cellar at stone house. "Newton Coal answers the burning question. Main office, Baltimore Ave. & 53rd St." is painted on truck cab. Driver stands next to coal chute in front of house. Label on back: "Up, up, up and over the lawn. Here's one way homeowners of Philadelphia have their coal delivered, due to the enterprise of the George B. Newton Coal Company. The truck is a 3-ton Studebaker cab-forward model with a wheelbase of only 115 inches. The body is by Rodenhausen and has a rear elevation of 11 feet 2 inches, the entire job weighing 15,450 pounds loaded. In the scene shown above, the street is 30 feet wide and the distance from the top of the terrace to the cellar window is 47 feet. As can be seen the chute carries the coal all the way and the high elevation of the body insures a swift flow."
