Vernon Spaulding, deputy collector of internal revenue, puts attachment notice in front of $85,000 mansion owned by Nat King Cole, Negro band leader. The home in exclusive Hancock Park district was ordered seized today for non-payment of $146,000 in income taxes for 1947, 1948 and 1949. Neighbors had sought to prevent Cole from living in the house after he bought it in 1948 but dropped their efforts when the Supreme Court outlawed race-restricting covenants.
