View of Howard J. Watrous and Thomas Hanlon in Hupmobile car on rural dirt road near Alabama during the 1912 Glidden Tour. Although the official 1912 Glidden Tour was canceled, Charles Glidden led a caravan over the identical route that had been originally planned, from Detroit, Michigan to New Orleans, Louisiana. Watrous and Hanlon left Detroit two days late and traveled 700 miles in three days to catch up with Charles Glidden in Nashville. Stamped on back: "Spooner & Wells, Inc., photographers, 1231 Woodward Ave., Detroit, Mich., telephone North 1745." Handwritten on back: "Nearing Alabama, Hupmobile Detroit to New Orleans, 1912. Tours--Glidden Tour, 1912."
