View of referee N.H. Van Sicklen and pilot of Chalmers car examining bridge in Indiana during the 1911 reliability contest sponsored by the Chicago Motor Club. "Bridge not safe" sign is displayed on bridge. Contestants traveled on routes through Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan. Stamped on back: "Spooner & Wells, Inc., photographers, 1231 Woodward Ave., Detroit, Mich., telephone North 1745." Handwritten on back: "Referee Van Sicklen and Chalmers pilot [undecipherable] examine and condemn a bridge 17 miles from South Bend, Ind. Tours--Chicago Reliability Run, 1911."
