Robertson making a turn in the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup race held October 24, 1908 on Long Island. Robertson was driving a 90 horsepower Locomobile. The significance of this picture is that this was the first American made car to win the Vanderbilt Cup races since they were organized in 1904. In 1909, 1910, 1911, other American cars won the cup. Of the total of thirteen Vanderbilt road races, four were won by American cars and the remaining were split between French, German, and Italian makes. Handwritten on back: "Races and racing--Vanderbilt Cup races, 1908."
