Born: Clearbrook, Minn., Nov. 28, 1922. Height: 5-11. Weight: 190. Bats: right. Throws: right. Caught 139 games in 1950--many of them with a badly bruised hand and a charley horse. In spite of these miseries, Wes set a new fielding mark for backstoppers with a percentage of .999, displacing a mark that had stood since 1932. Made but 1 error in 680 chances. Hit .236. Had 13 doubles, 23 homers. Drove in 71 runs. First hit majors with Giants at the end of the 1947 season. No. 161 in the 1951 series baseball picture cards.
