Was recognized as the outstanding catcher in the league when he left the Ddogers for south of the border. Was out of majors 4 seasons. Back in the fold, he was traded to the Cubs for whom he hit .273 in 62 games. Began in majors with Cardinals, 1937. No. 78 in the 1950 series of baseball picture cards.
