Welch is 26 years old, throws right-handed but bats in southpaw style. He towers three inches above the six ft. mark in height and moves the scales at 175 pounds. He was with the Chicago Cubs in 1931. Last year he pitched 15 games for Newark, winning 5 and losing 6. He pitched 20 games for the Red Sox, won 4 and lost 6.
