Herman Schaefer reaching for catch
Action shot of Herman Schaefer jumping barehanded as if to catch. Handwritten on card front, in faded white ink: "Herman Schaefer, 2nd base." Printed on card back: "Herman W. Schaefer, second baseman, has lived in Chicago all his life. He came to Detroit from Milwaukee in 1905 and has played steadily at second base until the middle of the 1907 season. He started in again in the last few games, playing wonderful ball and batting sensationally. He bats and throws right-handed. Copyrighted and published by A.C. Dietsche, Detroit, Mich., 1907." Handwritten on card back: "Mon. [October crossed out] November 2, 08. A little bit warmer today. Had a letter from E. Mitchell this a.m. and he wants me to be sure and go over the 14th. He said they are going to have a big time. I will be there. Went for a walk tonight. Second team here played tonight and won out 29-0. Everything O.K. With love. E.A.S." Card is postmarked November 2, 1908.
