One of the best pinch hitters ever in the American League, earned a .319 average for 108 times at bat as a pinch hitter in 13 years. Before entering professional baseball in 1912, was foreman in a silk mill in Paterson, N.J., his home city. Started as a pitcher in Buffalo, but turned to outfielding the next season. 40 years old, 5 feet 8-1/2 inches, 165 pounds. Bats and throws left handed. This is one of a series of 240 baseball stars.
