View of bronze relief plaque with portrait of Buck Ewing. Text on plaque reads: "Wm. B. 'Buck' Ewing. Greatest 19th century catcher, giant in stature and giant captain of New York's first National League champions 1888 and 1889. Was genius as field leader, unsurpassed in throwing to bases, great long-range hitter. National League career 1881 to 1899 Troy, N.Y. Giants and Cleveland; Cincinnati manager." Printed on back: "Base ball was invented in Cooperstown, New York, by Abner Doubleday and first played in this village in 1839. The National Base Ball Museum and Hall of Fame and Doubleday Field are maintained here as a shrine to the national game. Pub. by National Base Ball Museum."
