Hal Chase and Harry Wolter
Portraits of Harry Wolter and Hal Chase of the New York Yankees; in center of card is view of Chase guarding first base. Hassan Triple Folders (T202) series. Printed on back: "Harry Wolter. Harry Wolter, outfielder for the New York Americans, started like Chase as a pitcher, but at times alternated between the box and outfield. When the Yankees got him from the Boston Red Sox, in January, 1910, it was intended to keep him as a utility outfielder, but his hitting was so good he got a regular place in right field. In 1911 he batted .304. Chase guarding first. When Hal Chase began his official baseball career with the Los Angeles team in 1904, when he was only 20 years old, he was looked upon as ... wonder pitcher of the Pacific Coast; for there ... scarcely anybody that could stand against him. He early attracted the attention of the big league magnates, and the New York Americans got him the next year. It was the merest accident that he was tried out at first, and he showed such phenomenal ability there that he has been kept on that bag ever since. The picture on the other side shows him in characteristic pose trying to catch a would-be base-stealer napping. Harold W. Chase. 'Hal' Chase, first baseman of the New York Americans, played his first game with them April 14, 1905. He had started in California as a pitcher, but by a lucky accident was tried at first, and has ever since done brilliant work. He covers ground like an outfielder, but gets back to the bag in time. In 1909, 1910 and 1911 he batted .283, .290 and .315. Hassan cork tip cigarettes, the Oriental smoke. Factory no. 649, 1st dist. N.Y."
