Babe Dahlgren
Head-and-shoulders colored portrait of Babe Dahlgren, first baseman for the Boston Braves. Play Ball series. Printed on front, in banner along bottom edge: "'Babe' Dahlgren." Handwritten on front: "Monaco. 2B." Printed on back: "49. Ellsworth T. Dahlgren. First-baseman. Boston Braves. Born: San Francisco, Cal., June 15, 1912. Bats: Right. Throws: Right. Height: 6'. Weight: 190 lbs. After establishing himself as one of the most brilliant-fielding first basemen in the American League with the New York Yankees. 'Babe' Dahlgren finds himself in new surroundings for 1941. The flashy first-sacker was sold to the Boston Braves by the Yankees. Not a terrific hitter, Dahlgren was a timely batter with the Yankees, and stood out as a defensive bulwark. Last year, he hit only .264 but drove 73 runs across the plate. Play Ball. Sports Hall of Fame. Watch for other famous sports stars, famous fighters, tennis players, football heroes, etc. in this series. [Copyright] Gum, Inc., Phila., Pa. Printed in U.S.A."
