Paul Derringer started pitching for the Danville club of the Illinois-Indiana-Iowa League in 1927, winning 10 games and losing 8 his first year with them. After two years with Danville and two years with Rochester, he joined the St. Louis Cardinals, and was the National League's leading pitcher his first year with them, by winning 18 games and losing 8. In 1933 he was traded to Cincinnati, along with Earl Adams and Allyn Stout, for Leo Durocher, Frank Henry and John Ogden. In 1936 while with Cincinnati, he led the National League pitchers for games pitched, 51, and in 1938 led the same league in innings pitched, 307. His 8-year major-league record shows that he played 337 games, winning 123 games and losing 130 and striking out 890 batters. Play Ball - America.
