Inset portrait of Frank Baker, Jack Barry, Eddie Collins and Stuffy McInnis of the Philadelphia Athletics. Hassan Triple Folders (T202) series. Printed on front: "Arnold J. Hauser, Cardinals; Ed. Konetchy, Cardinals." Printed on back: "Edw. Konetchy. Edward Konetchy, the clever young first baseman of the St. Louis Cardinals, joined the St. Louis team in 1907, and has developed into one of the best firstsackers in the country. He covers the bag in modern style and plays it deep. His batting in the big league has been heavy, as the records show. In 1911 he batted .289 and fielded .991. The Athletic Infield. In 1910 this quartet of ball players, for offensive and defensive strength combined, was regarded as the equal of any that ever played an infield. Harry Davis, the veteran captain, has not slammed the ball the last two seasons as he used to, but his steady play at first and his knowledge of the game nicely supplemented the dash and speed of the three younger players. The gap made by Davis's departure to manage Cleveland will be well filled by McInnes, who covered first so well in 1911. All four, Baker, the hard hitter, Barry, the agile shortsop, Collins, the star second baseman, and McInnes, are young players, with a long period of active playing before them. Facotry no. 30, 2d. dist., N.Y. Arnold Hauser. Arnold Hauser, the clever young shortstop of the St. Louis Cardinals, got his training playing ball Saturday afternoons with a team representing the firm he worked for in Chicago. He soon got into the minor leagues, and after a brilliant season in 1909 with the Lancaster, Wis., team was drafted by St. Louis. Hauser is not a heavyweight, but makes up for that by his speed.
