Only player of Portuguese descent in big league. Played in National League with Cincinnati four years, went to Newark for a year, then came to American League with Cleveland. Traded to White Sox in 1931. Appointed manager in 1932. Plays first base. Is good hitter, although he batted only .135 in 18 games last year. Born in Oakland, Cal. in 1900. Is five feet, 11 inches tall and weighs 175 pounds, batting and throwing right-handed. This is one of a series of 240 baseball stars. Big League chewing gum, Goudey Gum Co., Boston.
